Since I got my first destination wedding, it has been a goal of mine to do a wedding in every state. Now that would be a huge feat! I would even settle for any type of shoot in every state.
All the States
To date, I have photographed jobs in Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, Illinois, North Carolina, New York, New Jersey, California, Washington DC, Florida, Nevada, Colorado, and New Mexico. If you count my own personal projects, I can add Hawaii, Oregon, Arizona, Michigan, Maine, West Virginia, Virginia, and Nebraska. I still have quite a way to go!
From Texas to New York
So how does a bride in Saratoga Springs, NY find me in Dallas, TX? Well, by referral of course! My childhood neighbor is my friend on Facebook and graciously recommended me to Christie and Andy. There's nothing that excites me more than booking a wedding out of state or out of the country.
Everchanging NY Restrictions
As soon as she said the wedding was in New York, I was ALL IN. Then I googled the venue, The Adelphi hotel, and was really excited. That was January 2020. For the next 18 months, we weren't sure how the wedding was going to look. First receptions weren't allowed, then dancing was an issue. Covid restrictions were changing non-stop each month. By the time the wedding date came, everything was allowed again and the wedding went on as planned.
My trip to get there was an adventure! Scroll below the gallery to hear that story!
Here is a selection of photos that tell the story of Christie & Andy's glamorous Adelphi Hotel wedding in Saratoga Springs, NY.
My travel drama started when I flew from Dallas to Philadelphia. Unfortunately, there were no direct flights to Albany. When I arrived, a huge line of storms started to roll through and lasted the rest of the evening. I didn't think the connection would leave so I decided to rent a car and drive to Saratoga Springs. Nope...all the cars in Philadelphia were booked. So what is the next logical option? I rented a car in the next closest location: Newark, NJ. I took an hour long (very expensive) Uber ride from Philly to Newark to get to a rental car. I arrived at midnight to a very long line of people. Finally getting to leave Newark, I drove all night to Saratoga Springs. I got just a few hours of sleep and then got ready for the wedding. As a person that sleeps like 9 hrs a night, this wedding was a miracle that I made it through all 8 hrs! Whew!
