It's true, there are photo unicorns out there, People who are at ease and comfortable in front of the camera and lucky enough to have a fiancé that is also the same way.
This downtown Dallas engagement session had all the elements to create the best engagement pictures. First of all, Gabi and Landon were good,,,,really good....definitely unicorn status. This couple had these 5 elements in their favor to have the perfect environment to get fantastic photos.
But don't worry, most people just need a little help to get them there and they too can experience photo magic,
Here are the 5 things you need to have the best engagement pictures.
Location- Picking the right location for the right time of day is everything. This shoot had muted, even light in all the shooting areas which opens up more places for good photos. Choosing a photo shoot time 1-2 hours before sunset or after sunrise usually makes for the best light.
Outfits- Elevate your look! Depending on the location, having 2 outfits really works well since you can have a dressy one and a more casual one. But don't go too casual, even your casual option should be nice. Pick an outfit you feel like yourself in. I have seen many people shoot in the wrong outfit (not them, doesn't fit, uncomfortable, wrong style, etc) that completely changed their personality that made their pictures look stiff or awkward. Another outfit tip that works well is to match your outfit colors to the shooting location.
Warm Up- Be prepared! The first 10 minutes of the engagement session are always a warm up. Just like when you work out, you have to get warmed up and get used to the process. Even unicorns experience warm up! Early awkwardness is NORMAL. So we will start the engagement session and you will see how you get more and more comfortable as we shoot.
Attitude- Be Playful! Playfulness is the KEY to amazing engagement photos. I will guide you but the more fun and relaxed you can be, the better your photos will be. Keep your focus on interacting and having fun with each other rather than interacting with me. Some of the best photos are when I say, "Ok, talk to each other and pretend I'm not here"
Expectations- It's always a good idea to tell me what your vibe is for the session. We will typically go through a range of styles- playful, basic smiling, sweet romantic, serious romantic, action, silly, advanced dips and lifts :) I want to capture your couple personality. So if you are both very serious, your session will lean that direction. It's important that the photos reflect who you are with each other.
These five things can really apply to all photo sessions whether it be your annual fall family mini session or your wedding day. Enjoy Gabi & Landon's Winspear Opera House engagement session.
